Over 1-Thousand Cited For Aggressive Driving In First Month of 2007 Campaign

Delaware law enforcement officers have issued 482 citations to drivers for aggressive driving behaviors, and another 137 to unlicensed, unbelted, and uninsured motorists for a total of 619 citations in the fourth week of a statewide enforcement and awareness initiative to “Stop Aggressive Driving.” This brings the total of aggressive driving offenses since the February 2nd campaign kickoff to 1,067.

OHS along with Delaware State Police, County and Municipal law enforcement agencies are again urging motorists to slow down and use more caution than usual on the roadways after a series of fatal collisions in the month of February has brought the number of people killed since the beginning of the year to 30. Aggressive driving has been listed as a primary factor in more than half of these fatal collisions.

The following is a breakdown of the number of violations found during week 4 of aggressive driving enforcement: 13 Aggressive Driving, 317 speeding, 50 unsafe lane changes, 20 following too closely, and 60 running stop signs and stop lights. Officers also issued 38 citations to unbelted motorists and 99 citations for additional traffic violations. Read more at state.de.us.

Did You Know?

A Request for Discovery is an information request you would make to the prosecutor
Ask usually the District Attorney, for relevant information related to your case. If you were cited for speeding, you may want information on the kind of speed measurement device the officer used to clock your vehicle, or the training records for the officer that measured your speed. A simple written request, sent via registered mail to the District Attorney's office, is usually sufficient to exercise this inquiry.
